Marine Biotechnology Park

TIDCO has proposed to set up Marine biotechnology Park and appointed M/s ABL Biotechnologies Ltd for carrying out a Feasibility Study 300 acres of lands have been identified near Mahabalipuram for setting up this Park. The Site contour survey has been completed. NEERI has completed Rapid EIA study and submitted the draft report. A presentation of the preliminary report has been done with the prospective investors to firm up the report . The Tamilnadu BioTech Board in its meeting held on 30-4-2004 has approved the Marine biotechnology Park with the following facilities at a project cost of Rs 66 crores.

Bio resource center envisages Gene Bank , culture Collections , Central Analytical labs, a pilot bioreactor & extraction and Technical Assistance.
Research Tenancy Area- six independent centres viz: photo bioreactor, Fermentor, Macroalgal, Food Fish , Ornamental Fish, biochemicals and industrial products.
Park Administration and Business tenancy Area. Includes customized labs of 20,000 sq ft to 30 biotech units for R & D activities, Common facilities include water treatment and supply, sub station, food court, IPR , stores for lab consumables , maintenance etc.
Pond Area: 200 acres of salt lands for developing aqua ponds to grow algae /marine organisms by the 30 commercial units.
Industrial plots : Developing industrial plots in 40 acres to set up processing facilities by 30 commercial units.

The R & D project is proposed to be implemented by TIDCO availing grant from Government of India. The commercial project is proposed to be implemented by inducting a co-promoter.
